Gummy Manufacturing MOQs (Minimum Order Quantities), Explained

One of the first questions every new brand asks a gummy manufacturer is: what's the minimum order quantity? MOQs shape your budget, your timeline, and how much risk you take on your first run. Here's what you need to know.

What is an MOQ?

A minimum order quantity is the smallest number of units a manufacturer will produce in a single run. MOQs exist because setting up production, calibrating equipment, and sourcing ingredients carries fixed costs that only make sense above a certain volume.

Why MOQs differ between white label and custom

White label products usually have lower MOQs because the formula and packaging already exist. Custom (private label) formulations tend to have higher MOQs, since the manufacturer invests in developing and testing a recipe specifically for you.

What drives the MOQ on a gummy run

  • Formula complexity: custom actives and flavors raise setup costs.

  • Packaging format: bottles, pouches, and custom inserts each have their own minimums.

  • Ingredient sourcing: specialty ingredients may have supplier minimums of their own.

  • Testing requirements: third-party lab testing is most cost-effective at scale.

How to plan your first order

Estimate how quickly you can realistically sell through a run before ordering. Ordering too much ties up cash and risks product aging on the shelf; ordering too little can mean a higher per-unit cost. A transparent manufacturer will help you find the right starting volume for your sales velocity.

Lowering risk on your first run

Starting with a ready-made white label product, a single hero SKU, or a smaller pilot run are all common ways to reduce risk while you validate demand. Once you have proof of sales, scaling up production becomes far less risky.
